Vice President — Medical Affairs
Lara Q. Barringer, MD, serves as vice president of Medical Affairs at MedStar Harbor Hospital. In her role, Dr. Barringer drives initiatives in clinical quality improvement, safety, high reliability, and quality-based reimbursement programs. She also provides leadership to the Corporate Denials Committee helping to develop system best practices for denials management.
Dr. Barringer began her career at MedStar in 2012 serving as MedStar Harbor Hospital’s physician advisor overseeing denials management, avoidable readmissions, length of stay reduction, and hospital-acquired condition programs. In 2016, she was appointed associate vice president of Medical Affairs for both MedStar Harbor Hospital and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. In this position, she continued overseeing case management, utilization strategies, and quality metrics while providing leadership to the medical staff.
Additionally, Dr. Barringer was a leader for the Corporate Denials Rapid Cycle Improvement Committee and Case Management Operational Practice Council. Prior to coming to MedStar, Dr. Barringer served as a medical director in the managed care industry in Maryland.
Dr. Barringer graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She practiced both primary care pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Barringer completed the Business of Medicine Program at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, and participated in MedStar’s Physician Leadership Development Program.
