Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Price Transparency Disclosure
MedStar Health is committed to helping patients and families make well-informed choices for their healthcare needs, and that includes providing them information about the cost of care.
The information provided here and in the link below is a comprehensive list of charges for each inpatient and outpatient service or item provided by a hospital, also known as a charge master. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires hospitals to publish the charge master on their website. Please note the information provided only indicates the amount charged for a service and does not reflect the actual cost of care for patients. Your out-of-pocket costs will vary given the following factors:
It’s important to keep in mind that this information is only the amount a hospital charges for a service, and is not the actual cost of care for patients. Your out-of-pocket costs will vary given the following factors:
- The published information is strictly related to the amount charged for a service. Hospitals are paid based on contracted rates for the services they provide. Your insurance coverage determines how much of the charge is allowed and can vary by insurance companies and your coverage.
- The charges reflect hospital charges only, and do not include physician or other provider fees that are billed separately from hospital fees. You may receive bills from multiple physicians for their services, including but not limited to an anesthesiologist, hospitalist, pathologist, radiologist, cardiologist, emergency room physician, and other specialists who participate in your care. If you have questions regarding the bill for their services, please contact the individual provider.
- The charges displayed are current as of January 9, 2020. These charges change frequently—the best way to obtain up-to-date costs is to call the hospital and ask for a cost estimate.
To better understand your healthcare coverage and receive an estimate of costs, please contact your insurance provider or the MedStar Patient Financial Services office at (410) 933-8200 or toll-free (866) 423-2734, during normal business hours (6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST).
