MedStar Harbor Hospital Honors Late Baltimore Philanthropist, Announces Capstone Event for Newly Established Gregory Barnhill Memorial Campaign

August 14, 2014

BALTIMORE—(August 14, 2014)—MedStar Harbor Hospital honors late philanthropist and prominent Baltimore business leader, Gregory Barnhill, with the founding of the Gregory Barnhill Memorial Campaign. Its capstone event, benefitting the campaign, will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the B&O Museum Roundhouse.

Barnhill, who sat on the MedStar Harbor Board of Directors, was a well-known member of Baltimore’s business community. A former partner at Brown Advisory, he was a career investment banker who supported hundreds of civic projects and charities across the area.

The Gregory Barnhill Memorial Campaign, launched on Thursday, July 24 at an inaugural event at the Maryland Club, was established to honor Barnhill’s legacy at MedStar Harbor. As a dedicated member of the MedStar Harbor Board of Directors, Barnhill was a key supporter of the hospital and provided strong leadership for MedStar Harbor’s fundraising efforts.

To recognize Barnhill’s service and commitment to the hospital, and to help meet the pressing needs of the community MedStar Harbor serves, funding from the campaign will help to create two new innovative centers: The Barnhill Emergency Command Center and The Barnhill Center for Orthopaedics at MedStar Harbor.

Together, the new Centers will help give the hospital additional resources to better serve its patients. The MedStar Harbor Board Room will be transformed into The Barnhill Emergency Command and Response Center, a state-of-the-art control facility that will provide all the tools necessary for hospital emergency command staff to respond effectively in the event of a disaster or emergency. The development of The Barnhill Center for Orthopaedics will enhance the level of care provided by MedStar Harbor’s world-class team of orthopaedic experts, by bringing new leading-edge technology used to diagnose and treat both common and complex musculoskeletal conditions.

“MedStar Harbor is privileged to have had such a respected and beloved community member on our team,” said MedStar Harbor President Dennis Pullin. “The Gregory Barnhill Memorial Campaign will forever honor his commitment as a dedicated champion of our hospital and our community.”

The upcoming event to support the Gregory Barnhill Memorial Campaign is presented by the Barnhill family and Brown Advisory. Entertainment will be provided by Mambo Combo; food and drinks by Classic Catering.

A variety of sponsorship opportunities, ranging in giving levels, are still available. In support of the event, the Schooner ($25,000), Sloop ($10,000), Mainsail ($5,000) and Dinghy ($2,500) sponsorships provide corporate recognition while giving companies an opportunity to pay tribute to Barnhill.
