BALTIMORE—(June 4, 2014)—MedStar Harbor Hospital has been awarded the Quality Excellence Award for the ninth time, more than any other hospital in the Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware region. Bestowed by the Delmarva Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit health care quality improvement organization, MedStar Harbor adds 2014 to its unprecedented list of years as a recipient (2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013).

“I’m honored to acknowledge our dedicated team of physicians, nurses and associates who continue to raise the bar on patient care — exceeding standards and redefining excellence — for the members of our community,” said MedStar Harbor President Dennis Pullin. “This prestigious recognition from the Delmarva Foundation further validates the unmatched level of quality care that I witness day in and day out within the walls of our hospital.”

The Quality Excellence Award recognizes individual hospital performance improvement in four national inpatient clinical areas – acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, surgical care improvement, and pneumonia. To receive the award, hospitals must meet or exceed the following criteria and requirements:

  • Improved individual performance measure rate to 90 percent or above for all four quarters on 10 required inpatient measures
  • Annual aggregate performance measurement rate aggregate rate of 96 percent or above
