Baltimore—(July 16, 2013)—MedStar Harbor Hospital has been named a top hospital in Maryland and in the Baltimore metro area by U.S. News & World Report, receiving high performance ratings in ten specialty areas including in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, pulmonology, and urology.
“It is an honor to be recognized as a leader in quality care,” said MedStar Harbor President Dennis Pullin. “This prestigious recognition reflects the strong performance of our dedicated team of physicians, nurses and associates and speaks volumes of the level of excellence we provide our patients each and every day.”
This year’s “Best Hospitals,” the 24th annual edition, ranks top hospitals in 16 different specialties from cancer to urology. Factors to measure performance include technology, hospital’s reputation among physicians, patient satisfaction and quality measures such as survival rates and nurse to patient ratio.
U.S. News created the “Best Hospitals” ranking system to identify the best medical centers for the most difficult patients—those whose illnesses pose unusual challenges because of underlying conditions, procedure difficulty, or other medical issues that add risk.
MedStar Harbor shares the top list with several MedStar Health sister hospitals. A total of eight MedStar facilities were ranked as top regional hospitals, including MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in the Baltimore region; and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar National Rehab Network and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in the Washington, D.C., region. MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital was ranked in both Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region.
