MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers
In partnership with Anne Arundel County high schools, MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine has placed athletic trainers in six high schools, giving athletes and the school’s community priority access to some of the best orthopaedic and sports medicine specialists in the region.
MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainers are placed in Arundel High School, Chesapeake High School, Glen Burnie High School, Meade High School, North County High School and Northeast High School for the 2012 to 2013 school year.
Meet the MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers:

Ryan Cisek, MS, LAT, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainer for Arundel High School. Ryan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Salisbury University. Ryan continued his education at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA, earning a master’s degree and gaining clinical experience working with the Stanford University football and men’s volleyball teams. Ryan’s previous roles include staff athletic trainer for the San Francisco 49ers and head football and baseball athletic trainer at Johns Hopkins University. Ryan currently serves as the head athletic trainer for the Chesapeake Bayhawks. |

Michael Goodman, MS, LAT, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainer for North County High School. Michael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Frostburg State University in 2007 and earned a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Michael has worked for the past three years as an athletic trainer in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Jesse Kolodziejski, MS, LAT, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainer for Glen Burnie High School. Jesse graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Salisbury University in 2010, completing an internship with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, working alongside the baseball team as they advanced to the 2010 Division III college world series. Jesse continued his studies at Mercer University in Macon, GA, where he earned a master’s degree in education.

Danielle Peters, MS, LAT, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainer for Meade High School. Danielle graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from William Woods University in Fulton, MO in 2008. Danielle continued her studies at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO, earning a master’s degree in education and working for the school’s Athletic Training Department as a graduate assistant for the women’s soccer team. Danielle has spent the past two years working as an athletic trainer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. |

Melissa Read, MS, LAT, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine athletic trainer for Northeast High School. Melissa graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Salisbury University in 2010. She earned a master’s degree in exercise science and physical education from McDaniel College in 2012, where she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for McDaniel Intercollegiate Athletics.

Megan Bapisteller, ATC, is a MedStar Harbor Sports Medicine trainer for Chesapeake High School. Megan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and a minor in exercise science and health from Salisbury University in 2012. Megan gained professional experience while completing an internship with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays’ baseball team.

Leigh Ann Curl, MD, is the head orthopaedic surgeon for the Baltimore Ravens. Dr. Curl has been with the Ravens since 1998. She also has served as team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins, the New York Mets, USA Women's Basketball, USA Women's Rugby, Johns Hopkins University and St. John's University in New York.
Dr. Curl is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. She is board-certified and trained at Johns Hopkins and the Hospital for Special Surgery. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Connecticut where she played collegiate basketball. Her expertise is sports related injuries and complex conditions of the shoulder and knee.

Milford Marchant Jr., MD, is the head orthopaedic surgeon for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, a Major League Lacrosse team. During his fellowship, he assisted the head team physician in the orthopaedic care of the 2009 World Champion Los Angeles Lakers. In addition, he served as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Sparks, Anaheim Ducks and Fullerton College.
Dr. Marchant is board-certified and completed a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic (Los Angeles, CA). Dr. Marchant attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he graduated with honors as a Doctor of Medicine. He continued his medical training as an Orthopaedic Surgery Resident at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Marchant was a four-time All-American lacrosse player for Johns Hopkins University and player for the U.S. national team.
He specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of injuries in both youth and adult patients of all skill levels, from recreational to professional athletes. In caring for his patients, he emphasizes patient education and the importance of injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Jeffrey Mayer, MD, serves as an assistant team physician for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and is team physician for Arundel, Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, Meade, North County, and Northeast high schools. During his fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System, he assisted the head team physician in the medical care of the Baltimore Ravens. Furthermore, he was an assistant team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins, the UMBC Retrievers, and Coppin State University Eagles. Dr. Mayer received his undergraduate degree from Boston College, and earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Family Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC and was elected Chief Resident.
He is a board-certified fellowship trained primary care sports medicine physician and specializes in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, as well as medical issues that are specific to sports and exercise, in athletes and active patients of all ages and skill levels.
